There are times in life when you don't want any fuss, or any flashy rose gold straps. When you just need a watch that you know you can always rely on to go with any outfit, without even having to think about it. This is that watch. The Ely Series Wood Watch by JORD, in black (link). The watches from Jord are designed to compliment a modern, 'sustainable, efficient and simple' lifestyle, which gives them a chic edge that adds to any outfit, yet without proving too distracting. It simply appears as though it belongs on the wrist; anyone's wrist.
Each and every Jord watch, which can be viewed here, are designed by knowledgeable artists and designers, and built by watchsmiths with a finish that simply screams superb craftsmanship, in fact the best I've ever seen in a watch before; and what's better - they're all made using sustainably sourced woods. You really do feel as though you own something special when you wear this watch which I think is just wonderful, and I definitely have enjoyed wearing this little beauty on a daily basis. The physical finish of the wood is just divine, showcasing a rough texture beneath the sleek (scratch-proof) glass face, encompassing subtle dimension within a perfectly executed, smooth strap. I almost feel as though this watch was made specifically to fit my wrist as it is just that well made, and so I think that the Jord watches would be absolutely perfect, not only as a treat to yourself, but as a gift for someone else (remember, Father's day is coming up!) It's also worth noting that the watch comes in a beautifully, guess what? wooden box with a slide off lid which the Jord logo carved into it. Not only did it prove different exciting to open, but it's something I've never seen before and I love the look of it on my shelf. I think it just adds to the whole experience of the uniqueness of these rare beauties.
I think what I love most about the Ely watch in black is that it's discrete, but makes enough of an impact to catch someone's eye. Each time I've worn this watch I have received numerous compliments and questions concerning where it's from, because you can straight away tell how well it's made, it's individuality and especially gorgeous nature. I mean, am I the only one who'd never heard of a wooden watch before?? Let alone one that looks SO professional? It's almost as if it offers everything I ever wanted in a watch, but I just quite simply hadn't even thought about a wooden body before! I was a little worried at first that it's naturalistic look would mean that I would struggle to be pair it up with my more 'glam' everyday jewellery such as rings and bracelets (as you can tell, I never have the patience or time to try and get things to match one another haha), but I'm pleased to say that I found that the subtle silver detailing within the face of the watch really does compliment them and doesn't make those metals appear too 'harsh' or contrasting.
What I also love about the Jord watches in general, especially with regards to the Ely series, is that I think anyone would suit at least a few of the wide array of designs that they showcase on their site, whether you're male or female, which is actually quite rare I feel. Also, for a designer watch, of such high quality, I personally feel that they're quite affordable in comparison to other, less distinctive designs on the market. It stands out a lot more which really does give it that wow factor which I love. I actually think that wood is a very underrated and definitely underused material within the fashion industry, so the use of such natural materials and simplistic designs are what gives Jord wood watches that desirable, minimalistic edge.
I also felt it worth mentioning that, friends who don't usually wear watches actually quite enjoyed trying this one on as it's so light in weight and smooth in texture, that it's very easy to forget you're even wearing anything. So if you usually stray away from watches because you find them uncomfortable, then I'd wholeheartedly at least give these beauties a look. I found that the Ely's face was the perfect size for my small wrists, yet it still looked good on some of my friends' who have noticeably bigger wrists, highlighting the versatility of the Ely series.
Overall, I absolutely love my new Ely watch, and I can definitely see it as a firm favourite of mine, probably forever, and I don't think that that is an over statement at all. The whole ethos behind the brand and the watches practicality, yet distinctive, unique design - alongside the supreme quality of craftsmanship it clearly showcases have completely won me over, and I already know that I will be adding another Jord Wood Watch to my collection at some point in the future. For me, the Ely Series wood watch in black is a timeless piece, that will always go with everything and suit any temporary styles/trends that come in and would wholeheartedly recommend that you at least give their range a cheeky look (link) because there are such a variety of face and strap designs that I reckon anyone could find something that would make them go 'ooo..' hehe!
I really hope that you all have a fabulous week, and make sure to let me know what designs/series you like the most in the comments!
